How Much Does Circumcision Cost in Toronto?

Circumcision is not generally covered by provincial health programs in any Canadian province, and OHIP does not cover routine circumcision in Ontario.

The price for a circumcision at our East Toronto (Scarborough) circumcision clinic will be determined primarily by the patient’s age. To get the precise cost of a circumcision for your son, or for yourself, please use the Cost Confirmation request form.

Circumcision in Ontario is Not Paid by OHIP

In the province of Ontario, OHIP does not cover routine circumcision for babies, or adult men. Our private Scarborough circumcision clinic operates on a user-pay basis.

Only circumcision procedures that are deemed to be medically necessary are covered by OHIP with Toronto doctors.

How Much Does Circumcision Cost in Toronto?

Pricing for Infant Circumcision

The cost for circumcising a baby under 8 weeks of age is $350 at our Toronto circumcision clinics.

The price increases with age.

Please contact us by phone at 647-568-1512 or use the Cost Confirmation form to get the circumcision cost that applies in your case if your son is over 8 weeks of age. Fees increase proportionally as your son gets older.

You will pay a $50 deposit when you book. Deposits are refundable only if you cancel by email with more than 24 hours notice.

For adult circumcision, we recommend a consultation appointment as a first step.

If you are considering getting circumcised as an adult, please book an appointment for a consultation so that Dr. Nguyen can review the procedure and outcomes with you before you finalize your decision.

Common Questions – Circumcision Costs & Statistics

How should we prepare for the procedure?

We will speak with you to confirm on how to prepare for the circumcision. For infants we recommend feeding your son before coming in for the procedure, and bringing along extra diapers.

Do any Canadian provinces pay for circumcision?

At time of writing (2022), the only provincial jurisdiction in Canada know to cover routine male infant circumcision is Manitoba. Different from other provinces, the government health insurance plan will pay the full cost of circumcision of a baby under 28 days of age.

In other provinces, including Ontario, the full price for non-medically necessary circumcision procedures is borne by the patient and their family.

Does OHIP cover baby circumcision?

Baby circumcision is not covered by Ontario public health. You will pay directly for your child’s procedure at our Toronto circumcision clinic. The price is the same whether or not you have OHIP coverage. We serve clients from all provinces and countries – and the cost is the same for all.

Does OHIP cover circumcision for adult men?

Adult circumcision done for personal or cosmetic reasons is not covered by OHIP. If you are considering getting circumcised at an adult age please book a consultation appointment with our doctor and we can assess whether your case could be classified as medically necessary and potentially be paid by insurance. Almost all adult circumcisions are paid for privately.

The Benefits and Costs of Circumcision

Research and scientific studies indicate that there are a number of medical benefits that can result from circumcision.

Circumcision benefits include the following:

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) was reduced by 53% to 60%.
Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) was reduced by 28% to 34%.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) was reduced by 32% to 35%.
Among female partners of circumcised men, bacterial vaginosis was reduced by 40% and Trichomonas vaginalis infection was reduced by 48%. As many of these studies were done in developing countries, it is possible that the protective effects of circumcision may be lower in England.

Additional health benefits of circumcision include the following:

Lower risk of getting cancer of the penis, a rare type of cancer.
Lower risk of urinary tract infections during the first year of life. Urinary tract infections during the first year of life can be serious and may lead to hospitalization. An uncircumcised baby boy has a 1 in 100 chance of getting a urinary tract infection during the first year of life, compared with a 1 in 1000 chance for a circumcised baby boy.
Prevention of foreskin infections.
Prevention of phimosis, a painful condition in which the foreskin retracts. Circumcised males do not get this condition.
Easier genital hygiene.
Circumcision may reduce prostate cancer risk.

Because studies have indicated a link between circumcisions and improved health and lower incidence of serious, sometimes deadly diseases, demand for infant circumcision has increased.

Potential risks of circumcision:

Bleeding – in 1 in 500 circumcision there may be some bleeding that is usually stopped with pressure or less commonly with stitches. If there is a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia, then our doctors will need advice from a pediatric hematologist prior to proceeding.
Infection – there is always a possibility that there could be a generalized infection requiring antibiotics after the surgery (1/4000). Serious infections are rare (1/5000).
Concealed penis – when there is a good amount of fat around the penis (pubic fat), the penis may retract inward and increase the chances the penis gets partially buried and requiring medical intervention (1/800).
Meatal stenosis – this is a narrowing of the urethra that may occur after the procedure requiring medical intervention (1/1000).
Phimosis – this is a narrowing of the shaft skin opening over the head of the penis requiring medical intervention (1/500)
Trauma resulting in permanent damage to the head of the penis (never in our practice)
Suboptimal cosmetic result (1/500)
More serious complications including death (never in our practice).
